On Monday 8 May 2023, Gene Watson announced that Chad Philips (band leader, road manager and lead guitar player with The Farewell Party Band) had taken delivery of a beautiful new guitar from Anthony Sims and the Lucky Dog Handcrafted Guitars company in Cleveland, Tennessee.

'Our band leader, road manager, and lead guitar player, Chad Phillips, has a beautiful new guitar from the Lucky Dog Handcrafted Guitars company.  It's one-of-a-kind, and sounds as great as it looks.

Here is what Chad had to say:

'What an honour it was to receive my new custom guitar from Anthony Sims and the fellas at Lucky Dog Guitars in Cleveland, Tennessee.

They make some of the finest, most unique guitars out there, completely from scratch.  This is my second Lucky Dog, and I have to say, it’s hands down the best guitar I’ve ever owned.

From the figured maple top to the exotic woods, black limba, and wenge, on the side and back, to the flamed maple neck, and the carved wooden pickguard, it’s just absolutely gorgeous.  And the custom neck plate, made by my friend, Steve Johnson, in South Dakota, turned out awesome.  It's one of my favourite Bible verses, Psalms 57:7, 'My heart, O God, is steadfast, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and make music'.

Again, I can’t thank all these guys enough for the excellent work they did, and I will definitely be singing their praises for a long, long time.

And, if you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind guitar, there’s no one better in my opinion.
